Dear Valued Customer,
We are pleased to announce that as of October 3, 2024 the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) union announced that operations would resume October 4, 2024 for some ports and all by October 7, 2024 after reaching a tentative deal with USMX.
This brings a halt to the strike and work stoppage started on October 1, 2024 at 12:01 am; which continues to cause disruptions and delays to East and Gulf Coast services. ZIM will continue to monitor the affects of the strike and work stoppage with regards to congestion and will make a determination on whether to implement the previously announced surcharge. At this time the surcharge will not be implemented as of October 8, 2024.
During the Strike and work stoppage, the ILA did not handle or move any containers or cargo at the affected East and Gulf Costs. Cargo coming to, leaving from, or moving within the affected East and Gulf Coasts were subject to rail stoppage and, among other impacts, marine terminals remained closed. Delays and disruptions are expected to continue in the near future. As such, pursuant to Clause 16 of the Bill of Lading, ZIM has declared that a Force Majeure event has occurred.
ZIM remains ready to assist customers in exploring options to keep their supply chains moving through alternative routes while the effects of the strike and work stoppage continue.
To help you plan, please reach out to your local ZIM sales representative.
