Metal scrap with liquids remains (for example, engine oil, fuel, diesel oil, etc.) is forbidden for shipment with no exceptions. Only dry metal scrap can be stuffed in ZIM containers according to the following guidelines:
Loose/Bulk metal scrap in a container is forbidden for shipment.
Containerization Instructions:
1. Metal Scrap in Big Bags:
1.1. Metal scrap in big bags is permitted if bags weigh less than 1.5 tons each, but always not more than the bag's carrying capacity.
1.2. Bags must be stuffed in one layer (not on top of another), properly lashed and secured. Improper lashing and securing may lead to shifting of cargo and uneven weight distribution. This puts the container and cargo under a potential damage.
2. Compressed or Packed Metal Scrap:
2.1. Must be palletized.
2.2. Floor is covered with rigid wooden lining to prevent physical damage to the container's floor.
2.3. Cargo must be properly lashed and secured, to avoid cargo movement.
